All good stuff, though Adobe should probably think twice about touting 'improved read-out-loud' capabilities: In my tests they were laugh-out-loud bad. Of course, all the new and improved features in the world won't convince some users to give up Foxit Reader, a longtime Lifehacker favorite.

Last month when Adobe released Acrobat 8 in Universal Binary, they said that Acrobat Reader wouldn't be out for another month. As it turns out, Adobe was telling the truth, because today they released the Universal Binary version of Acrobat Reader 8 for the Mac, only a month and a couple days later.

Reader 8 sports a 'new' interface as well as new tools, it's integrated with Adobe Connect to have real-time meetings straight from the Reader, and GPU acceleration to make those graphics a bit zippier. You can download it directly from Adobe's website, and version 8 requires at least OS X 10.4.3. It's not too bad of a download at 20MB, either.

The last time we talked about Acrobat, we sparked a healthy debate in the comments about the merits of using Acrobat Reader versus Preview on OS X. Personally, I'm still a Preview convert, but I still have to have Reader installed on my machine so that I can run other things on occasion (lame). If this version runs any speedier, at least that will make me happier.
